Gitgit Waterfall, located in North Bali near Singaraja, is one of the most famous and easily accessible waterfalls on the island. Surrounded by lush greenery, rice terraces, and clove plantations, it offers a picturesque and peaceful escape for nature lovers. The cool, fresh air and scenic landscapes make it a popular spot for both tourists and locals alike.
Gitgit Waterfall cascades from a height of about 35 meters (115 feet), creating a dramatic and impressive flow, especially during the rainy season when the water volume increases.
The waterfall is surrounded by dense tropical forest, providing a tranquil atmosphere where the sound of the falling water echoes through the trees. It’s an ideal spot to relax and enjoy nature away from the crowds.
The path to Gitgit Waterfall is well-maintained and relatively easy compared to other waterfalls in Bali. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk from the main road, with clear signage along the way. The trail passes through scenic rice fields, jungle, and small streams.
Because the trek is short and not too challenging, Gitgit Waterfall is a good choice for families or those looking for a more leisurely hike.
At the base of the waterfall, there’s a small natural pool where visitors can take a refreshing dip. The water is cool and clear, making it a great place to relax after a short hike. Swimming here is generally safe, though the current can be strong near the waterfall during the rainy season.
Along the path to the waterfall, there are several local stalls selling handicrafts, souvenirs, and snacks. These shops are operated by locals, and buying from them is a way to support the community.
The area is also dotted with shrines and small temples, which adds a cultural element to your visit. It’s common to see offerings left by locals, as the Balinese people consider natural sites like waterfalls to be spiritually significant.
