Snorkeling at Menjangan Island is considered one of the best underwater experiences in Bali due to its pristine waters, vibrant coral reefs, and abundant marine life. Menjangan Island is part of the West Bali National Park and is located off the northwest coast of Bali, about a 1.5-2 hour drive from Lovina or Singaraja.
Menjangan Island is known for its incredibly clear water, with visibility often exceeding 30 meters (98 feet). This makes it ideal for snorkeling, as you can easily see the vibrant marine life and coral reefs below the surface.
The island is surrounded by some of the most well-preserved coral reefs in Bali. You’ll find a variety of coral formations, including large table corals, soft corals, and colorful fan corals, creating a stunning underwater landscape.
The coral walls that drop down from the surface to around 40 meters (131 feet) are particularly impressive, allowing snorkelers to view both shallow and deeper marine life.
Menjangan Island is teeming with marine biodiversity. You can expect to see a wide variety of tropical fish, including butterflyfish, angelfish, parrotfish, and clownfish. Larger marine species like groupers, barracudas, and sea turtles are also commonly spotted.
On occasion, lucky snorkelers may encounter reef sharks, manta rays, and even dolphins.
The island’s ecosystem is part of a national marine park, which helps protect the area and maintain its rich marine biodiversity.
These are the two main snorkeling areas on Menjangan Island, offering shallow coral gardens close to the shore. Both sites provide easy access for snorkelers with an impressive variety of fish and coral formations.
